Winged People - Tree School

In another world, not very different from our own, there were two girls who were best of friends. The people of this world were very much like we are, except that they have wings. Thin, clear wings, like dragon flies. Some with two wide wings, others with four shorter wings.

Jasmine is very smart and extremely good with math. Her friend Amy, however, is much more into fashion and dance. If it weren't for Amy, Jasmine would probably just keep her hair in a pony tail and wearn a t-shirt and jeans every day of her life.

Each morning they would walk to school together. They are in third grade and their teacher is a lovely lady named Mrs Applebutter. It's not just because of her though, that all the students had looked forward to being in third grade. The third grade tree school for girls is located close to the edge of a cliff that overlooks the national park. In fact, the whole town of Drummersville is on top of a plateau with only one road leading down to Conrad City. This plateau is near the middle of the wide valley floor between two majestic mountain ranges.

Each morning the students would walk to school and the two wing students would fly up into the classroom, and the four wing students take the stairs. Some of the girls, including Jasmine and Amy, would get to school early and would hang out on top of the tree school, and climb up into the branches to play with the birds that live up there. It was against the rules, though that rule hasn't been enforced for a long time.

When the early warning bell rings the birds fly away, and the winged girls can't follow because unlike the birds with light and fragile bodies, the winged girls have strong and heavy bodies. Their wings do help them fly down to the class though.

Jasmine dreams of competing in the high glide, or the 100 meter hop, so at recess, she has Amy pace out 300 steps, then she tries to fly over to her making as few hops as possible. She knows that to really compete, she'll have to make it all the way in a single hop. From a stand still he'll jump up and try to fly the whole length without touching the ground, but there aren't even any boys her age that can do that yet.
