Who's Playing in Super Bowl 42 on Feb 3, 2008:
NYC Giants and New England Patriots (6:30 pm EST)
Obviously I'm not a big sports fan. I also don't watch TV, nor listen to much radio. I'm an internet centric kind of guy. So when our preacher told us from the pulpit today that it was Super Bowl Sunday, I was surprised that I hadn't heard about it loud and clear on the internet.
After church I googled "Super Bowl 2008" and was surprised by the top hits being notable sites like the NFL's own official page. It was clear where the event was going to be, and what day it was going to be, but not what time, nor even who was going to play.
I checked several sites, and it's not big on any of the news sites yet (I suspect that after the game it'll be the top story). I was thinking of heading out somewhere to watch the game, but I needed to know what time it would be.
Since the game was going to be in Arizona, I checked the official AZ superbowl site and found a count down timer. Being a web developer I know that count downs can't be trusted because of Time Zone issues. Many of them actually calculate the time on the clients system which requires their computers time to be correct as well as their time zone settings. So I tried to find the Game Time when it was clear it was going to take more than a couple random clicks guessing where it might be hidden I moved on.
I finally found that ESPN's site has a video feed with an announcer who had more of the critical details. They even had the Game Time on their front page. They did have the cryptic NYG vs NE declaring the teams, but at least that would be something to google for. New York Giants vs New England Patriots at 6:30 pm EST, 5:30 CST, 4:30 MST, 3:30 PST.
I'm starting to think about what it would take to setup a section for Major Events that would give all the straightforward information about each in one place. Maybe even set it up as a feed so folks could get it in their News Readers before the events. Things like National Elections, Major Sporting events, National Holidays, and even International events that get a lot of attention in the US.

UPDATE: Now that it's over, the New York Giants won 17-14.
